![]() Oh, the only predator that I have noticed around here are hawks and I once heard an owl. Is that so a wren (or other bird) has a spot to nest and won't use both so the bluebird gets one? Thanks! Christy :) Can you have both bird houses up? Which is the easier of the two? Also, I've read that bluebirds are territorial and will only nest in one box but I often see two of them back to back. I've been here for 6 months and have not seen one starling or HOSP (yay!!). There is a small line of tall pine trees running the back of my property along a ditch, up to two trees deep and beyond that more field. We live in a rural neighborhood that has less than half of the plots developed, each of which is an acre. I have see both bluebirds and purple martins in my backyard. I know I would enjoy it and so will my kids. There aren’t many things in this world that I’ve studied more or longer than Purple Martins.I am considering putting up a house this year. If any of you have any Purple Martin questions, I’ll be glad to help. I put it up in a pinch last year and painted it with spray paint. ![]() It’s the white gourd with the paint peeling off. Then use a jigsaw to make the top of the entrance flat. ![]() If you zoom in on the picture that I posted you can see it. (SREH) If anyone wants to know how to cut an SREH into a natural gourd I have used one that’s easy to make and very effective. They’ll nest in a Bluebird box.Īny of you who decide to put up Martin gourds, please use Starling Resistant Entrance Holes. I don’t know how far south you live but you might also live in the Tree Swallow nesting range. We have many pairs of them that nest here too. You can make or probably buy a fake nest to help attract them. Barn Swallows feed closer to the ground so they’d likely eat more than Martins would. Stob, I don’t know if they eat Bull gnats or not but they only eat aerial insects. Out of 100’s of nestlings, I had one show up the next year with a yellow band on his leg. I didn’t believe that, so I did my own little banding study about 15 years on the nestlings at my site, and guess what? The research is correct. GC, Martins that raise at a site don't normally return to the site they were raised at to nest. 217 registered members ( Shotts, Boathand, Woody1, 000buck, XVIII, donia, geeb1, CatHeadBiscuit, Rainbowstew, JSOG47, Drycreek, DoubleShoalsJR, catdoctor, blade, BCLC, CNC, cullbuck, Big Buck Video, shootnmiss, deadeye48, Ben2, GomerPyle, lalongbeard, Zzzfog, BentBarrel, SouthBamaSlayer, StateLine, CTMS, jhardy, jw706, timberwolfe, russellb, DoeNut, Mhkodiak, jake5050, HawkPilot, MTeague, Teacher One, Jdkprp70, biglmbass, foldemup, AU7MM08, AUjerbear, Andalusia, Davyalabama, paintrock, booner, JohnnyBuckshot, jtillery, Scdoghunter667, klay, Bruno, bamaeyedoc, Jotjackson, bug54, Coach3, Sgiles, kyles, gwstang, 2 ducks, Joe4majors, Fattyfireplug, JCL, Pwyse, Floorman1, fish251, 3baile圓, Megatrondiablo, lectrode, Squadron77, Offshore, Tailwalk7, rrice0725, twaldrop4, RLP76, Bowhunter2011, SuperSpike, Snuffy, icducks, tallapoosa, Troutgreen, johnv, Ray_Coon, BatesConst, Mulcher, cdaddy14, AuGrayghost, AU coonhunter, Gobl4me, MS_Hunter, Okatuppa, metalmuncher, Bmyers142, Jmfire722, Young20, JD_Bowhunter1976, SEWoodsWhitetail, Shane99, bamacamp, jwalker77, h00t, YellaLineHunter, Cuz-Pat, top cat, NATTABOY, sawdust, sj22, jake44, JB357, jellyhead11, turkey_killer, ts1979flh, CutNPurr, RAmerica, cartervj, AKB, Spec, rkt, Buck1976, Overland, Atoler, skidboot77, Longtine, !shiloh!, johndeere5036, seadoge8, bamamed1, NonTypical, Jay512, dquick1, m97, rickyh_2, jprice, tucker07, Fishhead706, RoadRunner1964, OutdoorsAL, kpswihart, thayerp81, outdoorguy88, TigerAG16, AC870, BCD, dave260rem!, Beulahboy, Dave_H, Dean, 3006bullet, TDog93, need2hunt, eclipse829, chevydude2015, gog1015, SurveyinAL, auman, riflenut, loprofile, dirtwrk, znix123, clayk, Vernon Tull, meats132, Dixiepatriot, leroycnbucks, Kang, dustymac, trlrdrdave, cgardner, Fullthrottle, canvasback, curt99rsv, NotsoBright, Turkey, Aldecks1, Redman3, hootn, millstoneman, Slowclimb35, AJones, Raven, turfarmer, PapaD, sw1002, Wool, goodman_hunter, fish_blackbass, Buckhammer, M48scout, Dekalb123, CCC, BPI, Tupi, MarksOutdoors, leroyb, Ridge Life, gbee, NoHuntin, Remington270, Bowfish, Claims Rep., 17 invisible),
